Nearly 100 years on the boston fish pier

1926

Sam Wulf founds Wulf’s fish market in Brookline. Every morning, Sam Wulf would walk the Boston Fish Pier before sunrise, wearing his trademark white shirt and tie. When it came to procuring premium product, the man was ruthless, and local fishermen knew better than to try to sell him anything less than the best. He would return to his shop with the freshest whole fish, and clean and cut it by hand.

1975

Richie Taylor joins his uncle Alan Wulf at the fish market on Harvard Street in Brookline and never looks back. Generations of Bostonians were raised on Wulf’s Fish, and they still call our offices looking for advice from Richie when it’s time to make gefilte fish.

Still working at Wulf’s buying fish before the sun comes up each morning, Richie and his trademark bright orange hat are a fixture on the fish pier.

2016

The fish market storefront closes and our focus shifts from the neighborhood to the restaurant kitchen. Wulf’s joined forces with seafood wholesaler George’s Bank and chef, avid fisherman, and veteran fishmonger Max Harvey. Under Max’s leadership, George’s Bank grew from being the commissary of Summer Shack restaurants to working directly with boats and supplying chefs across the city.

Together as Wulf’s Fish wholesale, the team would grow to become a significant presence on the pier and the go-to for chefs wanting the best products and service.

2018

Wulf's acquires San Francisco-based sustainable seafood import company CleanFish to expand its direct access to some of the world’s most sustainably raised seafood.

CleanFish brings a wealth of seafood sustainability and brand-building knowledge to Wulf’s, along with core brands like Loch Duart Salmon and Laughing Bird Shrimp.

2020

Wulf's reconnects with its fish market roots and launches an e-commerce store to offer the same great seafood to home cooks that it provides to chefs. A wide range of seafood is delivered right to the door in eco-conscious, fully recyclable packaging.

2021

Wulf’s Fish wholesale moves in to a new, larger facility right on Boston harbor, increasing our production and order packing capacity five-fold. With a dedicated shellfish room, frozen storage and a much larger cutting and packing area, Wulf’s was poised to meet new demand and service new markets.

2022

Wulf's acquires Northampton, Massachusetts-based BerkShore, expanding our reach to the entire state of Massachusetts and throughout the Connecticut River Valley. In 2012, Wes Malzone started BerkShore to connect talented chefs and savvy diners in the western part of the state with products previously accessible only in Boston.

From our warehouse in the Boston seaport, we drive seafood west five days each week to restaurants, resorts, retailers and universities.
